SO WHAT IS RIGGING AT AN EVENT?

The word “rigging” refers to the fastening methods and systems used to safely hang different components and equipment.

In event terms, rigging is used as term to refer to the structures or components required to hang truss, which can in turn be used to hang equipment in venues. Sometimes ground supported structures can be used to avoid hanging equipment, which can often save considerable costs.

So we use the term “Rigging” to describe the wide variety of structures and methods to mount, hang and attach various equipment items to create events, lighting rigs, sets and much more. Some of the types of rigging we provide and some of the equipment we stock to provide our rigging services…

Rigging is a fantastic resource to enhance your event in countless ways. But with a doubt, the most important contribution rigging makes is in the safety aspects. Everything which ever gets hung above peoples heads, no matter how small, can entail a major risk. Out number one priority is the safety and welfare of our staff and guests.

This is why rigging is arranged with the aim of optimising the use of the venue, but always prioritising event safety above all else.

As the organiser of the event, you have to pay special attention to these safety measures and ensure they are complied with. If your venue hasn’t mentioned them, it should definitely raise a red flag.

If you are working in a smaller venue, the equipment can usually be setup with ground supports, if necessary. However, when it is a larger event (exhibitions, conferences & concerts for example) rigging is an excellent resource with which to achieve proper distribution of equipment, without blocking or taking up precious space.

With rigging, it often enables the audience to see everything more clearly as nothing on the floor obstructs their view. At the technician angle you can also use rigging if you want to optimise angles for video, sound and lighting distribution, or for example keep the lights from shining directly into the eyes of the people who are sitting directly in the front of a stage.
